Detailed Chemical Composition of C63000 Copper

C63000 (UNS C63000) is a nickel-aluminum bronze alloy with a complex chemical composition designed for high strength and corrosion resistance. The chemical composition ranges are as follows :

ElementComposition (%)
Copper (Cu)Remainder (≈77–82%)
Aluminum (Al)9.0–11.0
Nickel (Ni)4.0–5.5
Iron (Fe)2.0–4.0
Manganese (Mn)≤1.5
Silicon (Si)≤0.25
Zinc (Zn)≤0.30
Tin (Sn)≤0.20
Lead (Pb)≤0.20 (trace)
Impurities≤0.5 (total)

Key Notes:

  • The alloy is primarily copper-based, with aluminum and nickel as critical strengthening elements.
  • Trace elements like Pb, Zn, and Sn are tightly controlled to avoid compromising mechanical properties

Production process

Smelting and continuous casting

The raw materials (cathode copper, phosphor copper alloy, etc.) are melted in an industrial frequency furnace (about 1200℃), and then formed into copper tube billets through a horizontal continuous casting process, and water-cooled to about 50℃. Jiangxi Copper also uses the horizontal continuous casting-planetary tube rolling method to produce smooth copper tubes, and the internal threaded copper tubes use the planetary ball mold spinning process.

Rolling and drawing

The copper tubes after continuous casting are milled to remove surface defects, and then gradually formed through processes such as planetary rolling, triple drawing, and disk drawing. These processes will produce by-products such as waste emulsion and copper chips, which need to be recycled and processed

Heat treatment

During the processing, online annealing (such as annealing at 700-750℃) is required to eliminate stress. In some cases, quenching (920℃ water cooling) and tempering (650℃) are used to further improve mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Forming and surface treatment

Finally, the finished product is made through steps such as hydraulic forming and metal processing, and surface treatments such as pickling and degreasing, flaw detection, etc. are carried out.

Product Advantages

Excellent corrosion resistance

C63000 copper tube performs well in highly corrosive environments such as seawater, sulfuric acid, and hydrochloric acid, and has strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it suitable for shipbuilding, petrochemical and other fields.

High strength and wear resistance

Through heat treatment (such as quenching + tempering), its tensile strength can reach ≥690MPa and hardness can reach 170~240HB, which is suitable for high-load components such as bearings and gears.

High thermal conductivity and thermal stability

The thermal conductivity is 42~77.13 W/(m·K) and the thermal expansion coefficient is low, which is suitable for thermal management scenarios such as radiators and condensers.

Good processing performance

Supports hot processing (850~900℃ forging/extrusion) and some cold processing (such as precision parts molding), and has excellent welding performance, and can perform argon arc welding, resistance welding, etc.

Economic and substitutable

Compared with materials such as stainless steel and nickel-based alloys, C63000 has lower costs and can replace some expensive materials for molds, fasteners and other fields.
