C67500 Manganese Bronze bar/rod
C67500 is a manganese bronze (also classified as a manganese brass) alloy primarily composed of copper (57.0–60.0%), zinc (as the remaining base element), and controlled additions of manganese, iron, tin, and trace impurities . It exhibits exceptional hot workability, high mechanical strength, and moderate corrosion resistance in atmospheric, freshwater, and seawater environments, though it is sensitive to stress-corrosion cracking in certain conditions . This alloy is widely used in industrial applications such as clutch discs, piston rods, valve stems, bearings, and other structural components requiring durability and corrosion resistance .

Detailed Dimensional Range
C67500 copper rods are available in a broad spectrum of sizes to accommodate industrial needs:

  • Diameter: Standard diameters range from 6 mm to 500 mm, with common stock sizes typically spanning 10 mm to 300 mm .
  • Length: Custom lengths can be produced from 0.5 meters to 30 meters, depending on supplier capabilities .
  • Forms: Rods are supplied in various surface finishes and processing states, including hot-rolled (black/rough surface), cold-drawn (smooth surface), forged, and precision-machined (turnished or ground) rods .

International Standards
C67500 copper rods are governed by the ASTM B138-1984 standard, which specifies chemical composition limits, mechanical properties, and dimensional tolerances for manganese bronze alloys . This standard ensures consistency in material performance for critical applications, particularly in mechanical and marine engineering sectors.

Chemical Composition

C67500 manganese bronze, conforming to ASTM B138-1984, is a copper-based alloy with a carefully balanced composition to achieve high strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. The chemical composition ranges are as follows:

ElementContent (%)
Copper (Cu)57.0 – 60.0
Zinc (Zn)Remainder (≈39%)
Iron (Fe)0.8 – 2.0
Tin (Sn)0.50 – 1.5
Manganese (Mn)0.05 – 0.50
Lead (Pb)≤ 0.20
Aluminum (Al)≤ 0.25

Notes:

  • Zinc acts as the primary alloying element, forming the matrix with copper.
  • Iron and tin enhance strength and corrosion resistance .

INTRODUCTION

Production process and product advantages of C67500 copper rod:

1. Production process

Raw material processing and smelting

The production of C67500 copper rod uses waste copper, zinc ingots, copper bran, etc. as raw materials, which are mixed in proportion and put into medium frequency electric furnace or industrial frequency furnace for smelting. The smelting temperature is about 1000℃. Slag remover is added during the process to improve purity, and the material is continuously discharged through a dark pipe. Some companies use the "large-tonnage electric furnace smelting-submerged liquid transfer-multi-head multi-stream horizontal continuous casting" technology. A single furnace can simultaneously continuously cast 64 products of different specifications, which is more than 10 times more efficient than traditional processes.

Forming and processing

Continuous casting process: The molten copper water is cooled and crystallized by the continuous casting machine to form a wire billet, which is then cut and peeled to obtain a copper rod.

Extrusion process: Some companies use hot extrusion and stretching after casting to improve the density and surface smoothness of the material. For example, hot extrusion combined with skinning can optimize the performance of the rod.

Annealing treatment: The formed copper rod needs to be treated in an annealing furnace to eliminate internal stress and improve mechanical properties.

Environmental protection and quality control

The smelting smoke is treated by a bag dust removal system, and the dust concentration is less than 10mg/l; the slag is reused after wet screening to reduce pollution. At the same time, computer control and detection technology are widely used to ensure the intrinsic quality and surface accuracy of the product.

2. Product advantages

Excellent mechanical properties

High strength and wear resistance: The manganese-containing α-β brass structure gives it high strength and wear resistance, suitable for easily worn parts such as bearings, gears, and valve stems.

Corrosion resistance: It performs well in the atmosphere, fresh water and sea water, and is suitable for structural parts with high corrosion resistance requirements.

Superior processing performance

Excellent hot workability: It is easy to press process in the hot state and suitable for precision casting of complex shapes.

Welding and casting performance: Easy to weld and high casting accuracy, complex parts can be produced.

Widely used

Used in mechanical parts such as clutch plates, piston rods, bushing shafts, etc., and can be further processed into plumbing hardware products through hot stamping, machining and other processes. Its diverse forms (such as bars, plates, and pipes) cover many fields of industrial manufacturing.

Production efficiency and economy

Advanced processes (such as horizontal continuous casting) enable large-scale production, low metal loss, and controllable costs. At the same time, the efficient use of scrap copper resources is in line with environmental protection trends.
