C70600 Copper Nickel (90/10) Bar/Rod
C70600 is a copper-nickel alloy (commonly known as white copper), mainly composed of copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni), with a typical composition of 90% copper and 10% nickel. It has excellent corrosion resistance, especially in seawater and acidic environments. A dense oxide film can be formed on its surface to further prevent corrosion. The alloy is widely used in mechanical parts, marine engineering, chemical equipment and other fields

Detailed size range (bars)

The specifications of C70600 copper bars vary slightly from source to source, but the main data are as follows:

Diameter range: 6 mm to 300 mm (8 mm to 200 mm is common).

Length range: usually 1000 mm to 6000 mm, some can be customized to 12000 mm.

International standards

The main international standards for C70600 copper bars include:

ASTM B151/B151M: specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties and processing requirements of copper-nickel alloy bars, which is the core standard for bars.

BS 6744: British standard covering the application and performance of copper-nickel alloy materials.

Chemical composition

Core components:

Copper (Cu): Balance (88.6%-90.8%), main base metal.

Nickel (Ni): 9.0%-11.0%, provides corrosion resistance and strength.

Iron (Fe): 1.0%-1.8%, enhances corrosion resistance.

Manganese (Mn): 0.5%-1.0%, improves processing performance.

Impurity limits (ASTM standard):

Zinc (Zn) ≤1.0% (≤0.5% for welding purposes);

Lead (Pb) ≤0.05% (≤0.02% for welding);

Phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), carbon (C), etc. ≤0.02%-0.05%.

Mechanical properties (significantly affected by processing conditions)

Basic range:

Tensile strength (UTS): 275-520 MPa

(Annealed state is about 275-450 MPa, and can reach 520 MPa after cold working or heat treatment).

Yield strength (YS): 105-393 MPa

(Annealed state is lower, such as 105-200 MPa; it can be increased to 393 MPa after strengthening treatment).

Elongation (EL): 10%-45%

(Annealed state has high elongation, which decreases significantly after cold working).

Hardness: 60-80 HRB (Brinell hardness 100-130 HB).

Influence of processing conditions:

Annealed state (O60): lower strength (tensile strength 300-345 MPa), high elongation (≥30%).

Cold worked state (H55/H04): tensile strength increased to 415 MPa, elongation reduced to 10%-25%.

Welding performance: good, suitable for TIG/MIG welding, but impurity content needs to be controlled.

Production process and product advantages of C70600 copper rod:

1. Production process

Smelting and forming

The raw material is mainly copper (content about 90%), nickel content is about 10%, and a small amount of iron, manganese and other elements are added.

It is heated to 1100℃ in an electric furnace for melting, impurities are removed by slag remover, and the traction machine is formed into rods.

Hot processing and cold processing

Hot processing: The temperature is controlled at 800-900°C, and the grain structure is optimized by forging or hot rolling to improve plasticity and corrosion resistance.

Cold processing: The cold rolling deformation can reach 40%-50%, which significantly improves the strength (tensile strength can reach 600-800MPa), but intermediate annealing is required to alleviate work hardening.

Subsequent processing

Supports a variety of machining methods, such as milling, drilling, etc. The milling force is small, and the surface roughness can be controlled at Ra3.2-6.3μm.

Excellent welding performance, suitable for TIG welding, MIG welding and other methods, with high weld strength.

2. Product Advantages

Corrosion resistance

It performs well in seawater and acid-base environments, especially against biological attachment and pitting, and is suitable for ships and offshore platforms.

High strength and heat resistance

Room temperature tensile strength 600-800MPa, yield strength 400-600MPa; outstanding creep resistance at high temperature, suitable for high-temperature parts of aerospace.

Excellent thermal stability, can be used for a long time below 1000°C.

Excellent processing performance

It has good cold and hot forming performance, and supports forging, rolling, stretching and other processes.

Machining efficiency is high, drilling accuracy reaches ±0.05mm, and milling surface quality is stable.

Multi-functional application

Applicable to marine engineering, petrochemical, and power equipment (such as heat exchangers, condensers).

Replace the use of stainless steel in chloride environments to avoid stress corrosion cracking.

Other advantages

Good electrical and thermal conductivity, suitable for electrical components.

Non-magnetic, meeting the needs of special scenarios.
