  • Stress-relieved (S) conditions are recommended for high-stress environments to minimize residual stress .

Chemical Composition

C61000 is an aluminum bronze alloy primarily composed of copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al), with trace elements controlled within strict limits. The chemical composition according to ASTM B169M-2005 is as follows:

ElementComposition Range (wt%)Notes
Cu + Ag90.0–93.0Includes silver (Ag) as a minor element
Al6.0–8.5Primary alloying element
Fe≤0.50Improves strength and wear resistance
Pb≤0.02Minimized for enhanced corrosion resistance
Zn≤0.20Trace impurity
Si≤0.10Enhances fluidity in casting
Other impurities≤0.50 (total)Includes elements like Ni, Mg, etc.

Key Notes:

  • The Cu+Ag content ensures high electrical and thermal conductivity.
  • Aluminum (6–8.5%) provides oxidation resistance and strengthens the alloy.

INTRODUCTION

C61000 copper rod is an aluminum bronze alloy, production process and product advantages:

Production process

Raw material smelting and component control

The main components of C61000 are 92% copper and 8% aluminum. During production, scrap copper (such as scrap brass, scrap copper) and raw materials such as zinc ingots are first smelted through an industrial frequency furnace or a medium frequency furnace, and auxiliary materials such as slag removers are added to control the impurity content. The proportion of alloy elements needs to be accurately adjusted during the smelting process to ensure that the total content of other impurities does not exceed 0.5%.

Casting and molding

The smelted copper liquid is formed into ingots through continuous casting or low-pressure casting. In order to improve the density of the product, some companies use reverse extrusion technology, such as using a 38MN reverse extruder for hot extrusion. The single extrusion force can cover a variety of grades, significantly improving the density and surface smoothness of the product. Drawing (polishing, wire drawing) or cold processing may be carried out later to further optimize the dimensional accuracy.

Heat treatment and surface treatment

Copper rods need to be annealed or tempered to eliminate internal stress, and scale and burrs need to be removed through processes such as pickling and shot blasting. Some high-end products also need to be polished to meet surface finish requirements.

Automation and environmental protection technology

Modern production processes emphasize continuity and automation, such as using step-by-step translation production to reduce surface damage, and using variable frequency energy-saving equipment and natural gas heating technology to reduce energy consumption. Waste slag is recycled through wet screening to reduce environmental pollution.

Product advantages

Excellent mechanical properties

C61000 has high tensile strength (≥295MPa) and yield strength, as well as good ductility (elongation ≥3%) and elasticity. Its hardness (≥65HDF) and wear resistance make it suitable for high-load scenarios.

Corrosion resistance

It performs well in fresh water, sea water and sulfuric acid environments, but nitric acid environments need to be avoided. This feature makes it widely used in corrosion-sensitive fields such as ships and chemical equipment.

Processing adaptability

It has excellent cold processing performance and is suitable for stamping, stretching, cold heading and other processes, and the surface can be further formed by hot forging (400-800℃) or machining (turning, milling, drilling). However, the welding performance is average, and electric welding or gas welding is recommended, and brazing is not suitable.

Environmental protection and efficient production

The production cycle is shortened through short-process processes (such as reverse extrusion), and the yield rate is as high as more than 98%. Some companies use recycled copper resources and combine environmental protection technologies (such as exhaust gas purification and wastewater recycling) to achieve green manufacturing.

Wide application areas

It is suitable for manufacturing bolts, pump and valve components, wear-resistant bushings, and conductive elements in electrical engineering. Its biocompatibility also makes it used in bathroom accessories.
