Dimensional Specifications

C21000 copper wire is available in round wire form, with diameter ranges depending on manufacturing capabilities:

  • Standard diameter range: 0.05 mm to 40 mm .
  • Customizable sizes: Some manufacturers offer diameters from 0.03 mm to 3 mm, tailored for specialized applications like electronics and fine instrumentation .

Note: Flat or tubular forms (e.g., flat copper tubes) are excluded as per the user’s request.

International Standards

C21000 copper wire complies with the following key international standards:

StandardRegion/OrganizationSpecification
ASTM B134/B134MUSACovers round, hexagonal, and rectangular brass wire, including C21000 .
JIS C2100JapanEquivalent to C21000, specifying brass wire for electrical and mechanical uses .
EN CuZn5EuropeDefines brass wire with 94–96% Cu (C21000 equivalent) .
GB/T 5231ChinaCorresponds to H95 brass, equivalent to C21000 in composition and properties .
Additional standards include SAE J461/J463 (USA) and ISO 426-1 (international), which align with C21000’s mechanical and chemical requirements

Chemical Composition

C21000 is a high-copper brass alloy (also classified as "red brass") with a primary composition of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), along with trace elements. The exact chemical limits are standardized under ASTM specifications such as ASTM B36/B36M and ASTM B587. Here is the detailed composition:

ElementContent Range (wt%)Notes
Copper (Cu)94.0–96.0%Primary constituent
Zinc (Zn)BalanceTypically 4–6% (residual)
Lead (Pb)≤0.05%Strictly controlled impurity
Iron (Fe)≤0.05%Impurity limit per ASTM B36
Other Impurities≤0.3% (total)Includes P, Sb, Bi, etc. [1](#user-content-ref-4), [3](#user-content-ref-6), [18](#user-content-ref-12), [31](#user-content-ref-22)

Key Points:

  • C21000 is distinct from nickel-containing alloys (e.g., [31] incorrectly mention nickel; this appears to be an error, as other ASTM sources confirm it is a Cu-Zn alloy).
  • The alloy is often referenced as H95 in Chinese standards (GB/T 5231) and CuZn5 in European standards [35](#user-content-ref-22).

Mechanical Properties

C21000 exhibits a combination of high strength, ductility, and excellent cold-working capabilities. Properties vary depending on temper (annealed, cold-rolled, etc.):

INTRODUCTION

Production process and product advantages of C21000 copper wire:

1. Production process

Raw material pretreatment:

The electrolytic copper plate needs to be preheated to remove surface moisture, and the temperature is controlled at 80~150℃ (natural gas heating). After rough drawing and wire laying, mechanical shelling, pickling (electrolytic pickling, cold water washing, hot water washing), boron coating and other pretreatment processes are required to ensure surface cleanliness.

Wire drawing and cold processing:

The copper wire is refined by water tank wire drawing or cold drawing process, and cold processing can significantly improve its strength and hardness. For example, the tensile strength of C21000 copper wire can reach 610MPa in the cold working state, and it can be hardened without heat treatment. Some processes also involve lead plating (lead pool, muffle furnace) to enhance surface properties.

Twisting and insulation treatment:

The copper wire after wire drawing needs to be twisted (bundle twisting, wire drawing) to form a multi-strand structure, and then coated with insulating materials (such as PVC or PE) through the extrusion process to ensure the balance of conductivity and insulation. Cooling water recycling reduces energy consumption.

Quality control and environmental protection measures:

The production process emphasizes noise management, waste gas/solid waste collection and treatment, and scraps are recycled after crushing. The inspection process includes raw material feeding inspection, finished product tensile strength and conductivity testing.

2. Product advantages

Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity:

The copper content of C21000 copper alloy is as high as 94-96%, and its conductivity is close to pure copper. At the same time, it has excellent thermal conductivity and is suitable for electrical components, heat exchangers and other scenarios. Among bonding copper wire products, C21000 has better conductivity and ductility than ordinary copper wire.

High strength and processing performance:

After cold processing, the tensile strength reaches 610MPa, the yield strength is 400MPa, and the elongation is 25%, which has both high strength and ductility. The cold processing plasticity is good, and the mechanical properties (such as hardness and elasticity) can be customized, which is suitable for the manufacture of precision electronic components and anti-magnetic equipment.

Corrosion resistance and environmental resistance:

Resistant to atmospheric, marine and industrial environment corrosion, non-magnetic and low density, suitable for harsh environments such as ships, aerospace, etc. Surface treatment technology (such as anodizing) further improves corrosion resistance.

Environmental protection and cost advantages:

The production process adopts low-energy consumption technology (such as cooling water circulation), which is in line with environmental protection regulations. Compared with bonding gold wire, C21000 copper wire is lower in cost and has similar electrical and thermal conductivity.

3. Application fields

C21000 copper wire is widely used in:

Electrical industry: wires and cables, resistors, transformers, fuses, etc.

High-end manufacturing: aviation instruments, anti-magnetic equipment (such as compasses), automotive motor special wires.

Marine engineering: ship hardware, corrosion-resistant structural parts.
