C21000 Gilding Brass sheet/plate
C21000 is a high-strength brass alloy primarily composed of copper (Cu: 94-97%), zinc (Zn: balance), and trace elements (e.g., Fe ≤0.10%, Pb ≤0.05%, impurities ≤0.2%) . Renowned for its excellent mechanical properties, high corrosion resistance, and superior thermal/electrical conductivity, it is widely used in marine engineering, chemical processing, and electrical applications

  • Tolerances are tightly controlled (e.g., ±0.02 mm for thin strips) .

International Standards

C21000 copper plates conform to the following global standards:

Standard SystemDesignationScope
ASTM (USA)ASTM B36/B36M-23Covers brass plates, sheets, strips, and rolled bars (C21000 as "Gilding Metal").
GB (China)GB/T 5231-2012 (H95, H96)Equivalent to C21000; specifies mechanical properties and chemical composition.
JIS (Japan)JIS C2100Matches C21000 for industrial brass plates.
DIN (Germany)CuZn5 / 2.0220Denotes brass with ~95% Cu and 5% Zn, equivalent to C21000.
EN (Europe)CW500LStandardizes CuZn5 alloy for sheet/plate applications.

Key Cross-References:

  • ASTM C21000 ↔ GB H95/H96 ↔ JIS C2100 ↔ DIN CuZn5 .
  • ASTM B152-2009 and JIS H3250-2006 also apply to general brass plate specifications

Chemical Composition

C21000 is a high-copper brass alloy (also classified as "red brass") with a primary composition of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), along with trace elements. The exact chemical limits are standardized under ASTM specifications such as ASTM B36/B36M and ASTM B587. Here is the detailed composition:

ElementContent Range (wt%)Notes
Copper (Cu)94.0–96.0%Primary constituent
Zinc (Zn)BalanceTypically 4–6% (residual)
Lead (Pb)≤0.05%Strictly controlled impurity
Iron (Fe)≤0.05%Impurity limit per ASTM B36
Other Impurities≤0.3% (total)Includes P, Sb, Bi, etc. [1](#user-content-ref-4), [3](#user-content-ref-6), [18](#user-content-ref-12), [31](#user-content-ref-22)

Key Points:

  • C21000 is distinct from nickel-containing alloys (e.g., [31] incorrectly mention nickel; this appears to be an error, as other ASTM sources confirm it is a Cu-Zn alloy).
  • The alloy is often referenced as H95 in Chinese standards (GB/T 5231) and CuZn5 in European standards [35](#user-content-ref-22).

Mechanical Properties

C21000 exhibits a combination of high strength, ductility, and excellent cold-working capabilities. Properties vary depending on temper (annealed, cold-rolled, etc.):

INTRODUCTION

C21000 copper plate production process and product advantages:

1. Production process

Basic processing flow:

The production of C21000 copper plate follows the typical copper alloy plate and strip process, which mainly includes the following steps:

Ingot supply and smelting: The raw materials are formed into alloy ingots through batching and smelting.

Hot rolling and cold rolling: Hot rolling is carried out at 775~850℃, and then cold rolling further refines the material structure.

Annealing and pickling: The annealing temperature is controlled at 540~600℃ to eliminate internal stress and improve ductility; pickling is used to remove the surface oxide layer.

Finishing and finishing: The dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the plate are ensured through multiple passes of finishing and straightening.

Inspection and packaging: The final product must be packaged and stored after mechanical property testing and surface inspection.

Special process requirements:

The annealing process after hot working is crucial to the ductility of the material, and the annealing temperature must be strictly controlled at 540~600℃.

Some manufacturers (such as Jintian Copper) use horizontal continuous casting technology to improve the uniformity of ingots.

2. Product advantages

Excellent mechanical properties:

High strength and high ductility: tensile strength ≥ 205 MPa, elongation δ10 ≥ 35%, suitable for high-load scenarios.

Good hot and cold processability: supports a variety of forming processes such as cold bending, stamping, forging, etc., suitable for complex parts manufacturing.

Physical and chemical properties:

Electrical and thermal conductivity: copper content reaches 95%, and the conductivity is close to pure copper, suitable for electrical components and heat exchangers.

Corrosion resistance: excellent performance in marine environment and humid conditions, suitable for ship hardware and outdoor buildings.

Environmental protection and versatility:

Low-lead environmental protection options: Some manufacturers provide low-lead or lead-free products that meet EU RoHS standards to meet environmental protection requirements.

Diversified applications: from key blanks, gaskets to electronic connectors, artworks, covering industrial and consumer fields.

Process adaptability:

Support customized production, including material hardness, thickness, surface treatment, etc., to meet the needs of different customers
