Thickness Range: Plate thickness is typically 1.0-200 mm, customizable. Hot rolled plate thickness tolerances are subject to Table 2 of the ASME standard (specific values not disclosed).

Width and Length: Width ranges from 200-2000 mm, with standard lengths of 1000-2000 mm. Plate lengths mentioned in the evidence can be up to 3500 mm, with flatness tolerances increasing with length (e.g. 60-132 inches for 1.5 mm arc depth).

Tolerance Requirements: Thickness tolerances vary by standard, e.g. ASTM B21 has a tolerance of ±0.0045 inches (0.75-1 inch) to ±0.005 inches (2 inches) for bars, and flatness tolerances for plates are set by length.

International Standards

C46400 copper plate must comply with the following major international standards:

ASTM Standards:

ASTM B21/B21M: Standardizes the dimensions and properties of naval brass bars, covering grinding length, tolerances, and weight.

ASTM B124/B124M: Specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties and dimensional requirements of copper alloy plates.

ASTM B171/B171M: Copper alloy plates suitable for pressure vessels and heat exchangers, including flatness, surface quality, etc.

ASME standards:

ASME SB-171/SB-171M-2017: For marine brass plates, the performance requirements of hot rolled (M20) and annealed (O25) states are specified.

ASME B31.3: Involves the specifications of C46400 bolts in piping systems, such as size range, tensile strength (≥50 ksi) and temperature range.

C46400 copper plate production process and product advantages:

Production process

Raw material processing and smelting

The chemical composition of C46400 is mainly copper (59%-62%) and zinc (balance), with added tin (0.5%-1.0%), a small amount of lead (≤0.2%) and other elements. These metals are smelted to form alloy billets to ensure uniform composition.

It is mentioned that the copper plate production process includes pretreatment steps such as water washing, degreasing, and cleaning, which may be used for surface cleaning.

Hot working forming

The billet is formed by hot working methods such as hot rolling, hot forging or extrusion. C46400 has excellent hot working properties and is suitable for forging and rolling at high temperatures. For example, the thickness of hot rolled plates can reach more than 80mm, and the performance is optimized by annealing.

Cold working and heat treatment

Cold working such as cold rolling and stretching can further improve the accuracy and surface quality.

The heat treatment specifications include annealing (softening the material), solution treatment (improving strength) and aging treatment (stabilizing performance). For example, the yield strength of the plate annealed after hot rolling is ≥140MPa.

Surface treatment and testing

Some products need to be sprayed with primer and topcoat to enhance corrosion resistance, and then cured by drying.

Advanced equipment such as six-roll cold finishing mill and continuous annealing furnace are used to ensure product uniformity and high yield rate.

Product advantages

Excellent corrosion resistance

The addition of tin significantly improves the ability to resist seawater corrosion and inhibits dezincification, which is suitable for marine environment components such as ship propellers and pump bodies. Its resistance to salt spray and high-temperature seawater erosion is better than that of ordinary brass.

Excellent mechanical properties

Tensile strength ≥360MPa (hot extrusion state), yield strength ≥140MPa (annealed state), elongation after fracture ≥30%, with both high strength and plasticity.

Wear-resistant, fatigue-resistant and stress corrosion cracking-resistant, suitable for high-load components such as bolts and shafts.

Excellent processing performance

Excellent hot processing performance, can forge complex shapes; good cutting performance during cold processing, improves production efficiency.

Excellent welding performance, suitable for structures that need to be connected, such as condenser tubes and welding rods.

Electrical and thermal conductivity

Moderate electrical conductivity, suitable for ship electrical connectors; thermal conductivity helps heat exchangers and condensers to dissipate heat efficiently.

Other functional characteristics

Electromagnetic shielding performance protects electronic equipment and enhances the reliability of ship systems.

The golden appearance can be used for decorative parts.

Wide range of applications

Shipbuilding (propellers, valves), aerospace (connector parts), chemical equipment (pump body) and electrical industry, etc.
