C24000 Brass Pipe/Tube
C24000 copper tube is a common brass tube, mainly composed of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), belonging to copper-zinc alloy (CuZn20). Its chemical composition contains 78.5%-81.5% copper, zinc as the balance, and contains trace elements such as lead (Pb≤0.05%) and iron (Fe≤0.05%). This material has high strength, good plasticity, corrosion resistance and hot and cold processing properties, and is suitable for manufacturing thin-walled tubes, corrugated tubes, papermaking nets and building supplies.

Pipes:

Outer diameter range covers a wide range, which varies in different standards and application scenarios. For example:

The outer diameter of seamless brass tubes is 30-400mm and the wall thickness is 3-42.5mm (suitable for industrial fields);

In air conditioning, refrigeration and other scenarios, the outer diameter is 4-80mm and the wall thickness is 0.5-3.5mm;

In other standards, the outer diameter can reach 2-914mm and the wall thickness is 0.2-120mm (covering welded and seamless tubes).

The length is generally 1-12 meters, and customization is supported.

Copper (Cu): 78.5%-81.5% (Chinese standard GB/T 5231-2012), US UNS C24000 standard is 76%-80%


Zinc (Zn): Balance, about 18%-23.5%.

Impurity control:


Lead (Pb): Chinese standard requires ≤0.03% or ≤0.05%, while UNS C24000 contains 0.5% Pb (low-lead brass).

Iron (Fe): ≤0.05%-0.10%.

Phosphorus (P): ≤0.01%.

The total of other impurities is ≤0.3%.


Mechanical properties

Strength and plasticity:

Tensile strength: 360 MPa (52,000 psi), some data show lower (235 MPa), which may be related to different processing conditions (such as annealed or cold-processed).

Yield strength: 170 MPa (25,000 psi).

Elongation: 42% (50 mm gauge length), the plasticity of Chinese standard H80 is good, suitable for hot and cold pressure processing.

Elastic modulus:

117 GPa (17,000 ksi)

Hardness:

Brinell hardness 82 HB, relatively low, but can be improved by cold hardening.

Production process

Melting and continuous casting technology


The cathode copper and phosphor copper alloy (1200℃) are melted in an industrial frequency furnace, and then the copper tube billet is formed by a horizontal continuous casting process. This process combines planetary rolling (such as a three-roll planetary rolling mill) and disc drawing technology to efficiently produce large-size tube billets and improve product consistency and dimensional accuracy.


Some processes introduce electromagnetic stirring devices to refine grains and reduce defects such as pores and cracks, improving the uniformity of copper tube wall thickness and organizational density.


Rolling and stretching


Long-stroke tube rolling mills and high-speed tandem drawing machines are used, combined with floating core head stretching technology to ensure that the inner and outer surfaces of the copper tube are smooth and have high dimensional accuracy.


Planetary rolling (such as horizontal continuous casting-planetary tube rolling method) significantly improves production efficiency and is suitable for spinning of internally threaded copper tubes.


Post-processing process


Annealing: The net chain bright annealing technology is used to make the surface of the copper tube free of oxidation spots and keep it smooth.

Straightening and testing: High-precision straightening machines ensure straightness, and Swiss spectrometers and other equipment ensure stable mechanical properties.
