C36000 Free Cutting Brass Plate/Sheet
C36000 is a free-cutting brass with a high lead content. Excellent processing performance: The presence of lead produces short chips during cutting, reduces tool wear, and has high processing efficiency. Its machinability is set to a benchmark value of 100. Balanced mechanical properties: The tensile strength range is wide (338-550MPa), and the elongation can reach 4%-15% depending on the tempering state, suitable for cold/hot pressure processing.

C36000 mainly follows the following standards:


ASTM B16/B16M: covers chemical composition, mechanical properties and tolerances, the latest version is 2015.


AMS 4610: Aerospace material specification, emphasizing high strength and reliability.


SAE J461: Society of Automotive Engineering standard, applicable to automotive parts.


Other references: The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (NF-I-2100-1) has clear requirements for the yield strength (≥25ksi) and tensile strength (≥55-57ksi) of its bars.

Production process and product advantages of C36000 copper plate:


1. Production process

Ingredients: Accurately weigh copper (62.0%-65.0%), zinc (remainder), lead (2.4%-3.7%) and other trace elements (such as iron, aluminum, etc.) according to the requirements of the alloy composition, and strictly control the impurity content.

Smelting: Heat the raw materials in a smelting furnace to liquid (about 900-1000°C), and stir them thoroughly to ensure uniform composition.

Casting: Pour the molten copper into a mold, cool and solidify into an ingot or slab.

Heat treatment:

Annealing: Annealing at 600-650℃ to eliminate internal stress and improve organizational uniformity.

Other treatments: Carburizing (670℃ carburizing for 0.5 hours) can form a TaC/Ta composite coating to enhance surface properties.

Processing and forming:

Hot rolling/cold rolling: Form the plate through hot rolling (640-780℃) or cold rolling process, and improve the surface quality by combining milling and finishing.

Mechanical processing: cutting, grinding, polishing and other processes are used to achieve high-precision dimensions and smooth surfaces.

2. Product advantages

Excellent cutting performance:

The cutting index is as high as 100% (based on free-cutting steel), the chip breaking is smooth, and the tool wear is small, which is suitable for high-speed automatic processing of precision parts (such as gears, valves, and watch parts).

Stable mechanical properties:

The tensile strength range is wide (330-550 MPa), and the elongation can reach more than 30%, with both high strength and plasticity.

Moderate hardness (Brinell hardness 80-150 HB), which can be further improved after cold working or aging hardening.

Excellent processing adaptability:

Supports a variety of forming processes such as cold/hot forging, bending, riveting, rolling, etc., with good fluidity, suitable for complex parts manufacturing.

Corrosion resistance and conductivity:

Good corrosion resistance to seawater, atmosphere, fresh water and most acid and alkali media, especially suitable for humid environments such as water heating and ships.

The electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity are better than ordinary brass, suitable for electrical applications such as electronic connectors and heat dissipation components.
