General specifications:
According to the standard of wear-resistant brass rods, the diameter (or distance across the flats) of C24000 ranges from 5 to 80 mm, and the length ranges from 500 to 6000 mm, which is suitable for cross-sectional shapes such as round, hexagonal, and rectangular.
The hot extrusion (M30) specifications of conductive copper rods are 10 to 90 mm, and the drawing (H50) and annealing (060) specifications can be as low as 3 to 80 mm.
The specification range of extruded rods is wider, for example, the diameter of H62 brass round rods can reach 10 to 260 mm, and C24000 may be similar.
Special applications:
The diameter of copper rods for mineral insulated cables is 3 to 80 mm, and the cut length is required to be at least 20 m, with an allowable deviation of ±0.20 mm.

The standardized specifications of C24000 involve multiple international and domestic standards:
Chinese Standards:
GB/T 5231-2012/2022: Its corresponding grade is listed as H80.
YS/T 649-2018: Covers the technical requirements for copper and copper alloy extruded rods.
International Standards:
ASTM: C24000 complies with American ASTM standards, such as ASTM B36 (General Standard for Brass Plates, Strips, and Rods).
ISO and JIS: Some products are marked as complying with ISO or Japanese JIS standards.
Main ingredients:
Copper (Cu): 78.5%-81.5% (Chinese standard GB/T 5231-2012), US UNS C24000 standard is 76%-80%
Zinc (Zn): Balance, about 18%-23.5%.
Impurity control:
Lead (Pb): Chinese standard requires ≤0.03% or ≤0.05%, while UNS C24000 contains 0.5% Pb (low-lead brass).
Iron (Fe): ≤0.05%-0.10%.
Phosphorus (P): ≤0.01%.
The total of other impurities is ≤0.3%.
Mechanical properties
Strength and plasticity:
Tensile strength: 360 MPa (52,000 psi), some data show lower (235 MPa), which may be related to different processing conditions (such as annealed or cold-processed).
Yield strength: 170 MPa (25,000 psi).
Elongation: 42% (50 mm gauge length), the plasticity of Chinese standard H80 is good, suitable for hot and cold pressure processing.
Elastic modulus:
117 GPa (17,000 ksi)
Hardness:
Brinell hardness 82 HB, relatively low, but can be improved by cold hardening.
Production process and product advantages of C24000 copper rod:
1. Production process
Raw material processing and smelting
Using scrap copper, high-purity cathode copper and zinc ingots as the main raw materials, impurities are removed through radiation inspection (to ensure material safety) and manual sorting.
Use power frequency furnace or large-tonnage electric furnace for smelting, add slag remover, industrial salt and other refining agents to adjust the composition and improve the purity of copper liquid. Some companies use the independently developed "submerged liquid transfer-multi-head multi-stream horizontal continuous casting" technology to achieve efficient continuous casting and reduce smoke emissions.
Forming and processing
The smelted copper liquid is formed into billets through continuous casting, and then hot extrusion (such as 38MN reverse extruder) or drawing forming, and the oxide scale is removed to obtain copper rods.
Some processes include annealing treatment (such as annealing furnace) to improve the ductility of the material, and optimize the surface quality through pickling, water washing and other steps.
Post-processing and testing
The finished product needs to go through finishing, sawing, polishing and other processes, and finally pass the quality inspection and then be packaged and shipped.
Advanced enterprises use automated production lines (such as step-by-step translation production) to reduce surface damage and improve the yield rate.
