C90500 is a cast tin bronze alloy (UNS designation: C90500), also historically referred to as SAE Alloy 62. It is composed primarily of 86–89% copper, 9.5–10.5% tin, and minor additions of zinc (1.5–3.0%), lead (≤0.25%), and trace elements like nickel, iron, and antimony . This alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance (particularly in seawater), wear resistance, and machinability, making it suitable for high-stress components such as valves, pump bodies, gears, bearings, and marine fittings . Its casting properties include moderate fluidity and a tendency for microporosity, necessitating optimized foundry practices to mitigate defects like shrinkage and gas porosity .
